1. Our Commitment to Accessibility
Mahoney Law Group is committed to ensuring that GMClassActionLawsuit.com is accessible to all individuals, including persons with disabilities. We believe that everyone affected by the GM/Allison Transmission class action has a right to access information about potential legal remedies available to them, and we are committed to removing barriers that may prevent individuals with disabilities from using our Site effectively.
We strive to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities, including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, language, learning, and neurological disabilities.
2. Applicable Standards and Legal Framework
2.1 WCAG 2.1 AA Compliance
Our target standard is WCAG 2.1 Level AA conformance, which addresses four core accessibility principles:
- Perceivable: Information and user interface components must be presentable to users in ways they can perceive. This includes providing text alternatives for non-text content, captions for audio and video, and ensuring content can be presented in different ways without losing meaning.
- Operable: User interface components and navigation must be operable. All functionality must be available via keyboard, users must have sufficient time to read content, and navigation must be provided to help users orient and move through content.
- Understandable: Information and the operation of the interface must be understandable. Text must be readable, pages must be predictable, and users must be helped to avoid and correct mistakes.
- Robust: Content must be robust enough to be interpreted by a wide variety of user agents, including assistive technologies such as screen readers.
2.2 Applicable Legal Requirements
We are committed to compliance with applicable accessibility laws and regulations, including:
- Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), which prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in places of public accommodation, including commercial websites
- Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended
- California Unruh Civil Rights Act (Cal. Civil Code § 51 et seq.), which prohibits disability discrimination by all business establishments in California
- California Government Code Section 11135, which prohibits discrimination in programs and activities funded by the State of California
3. Accessibility Features of This Site
3.1 Visual Accessibility
We have implemented the following features to support users with visual impairments:
- Sufficient color contrast ratios between text and background colors, meeting or exceeding WCAG 2.1 AA minimum contrast ratios (4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text)
- Text that can be resized up to 200% without loss of content or functionality
- Content that does not rely solely on color to convey information
- Descriptive alternative text (alt text) for all meaningful images
- Decorative images are marked with empty alt attributes so they are ignored by screen readers
- No content that flashes more than three times per second, which could trigger seizures in users with photosensitive epilepsy
3.2 Motor Accessibility
For users with limited motor function or who rely on keyboard navigation:
- All interactive elements are accessible via keyboard (Tab, Shift+Tab, Enter, Space, and Arrow keys)
- A visible keyboard focus indicator is provided for all focusable elements
- No time limits are imposed on form completion
- No content that requires complex mouse gestures or fine motor control to operate
- Skip navigation links are provided to allow keyboard users to bypass repetitive navigation and go directly to the main content
3.3 Auditory Accessibility
For users who are deaf or hard of hearing:
- Any audio content includes captions or transcripts
- Audio does not play automatically; where audio is present, controls are provided to pause, stop, and adjust volume
- Information is not conveyed through audio alone
3.4 Cognitive Accessibility
To support users with cognitive, learning, or neurological disabilities:
- Plain, clear language is used throughout the Site
- Consistent navigation and page layout throughout the Site
- Form fields are clearly labeled and include descriptive error messages
- Error suggestions are provided when form validation fails
- No content that distracts or disrupts users without a method to pause or disable it
3.5 Screen Reader Compatibility
The Site is designed for compatibility with commonly used screen readers, including:
- NVDA (NonVisual Desktop Access) with Mozilla Firefox
- JAWS (Job Access With Speech) with Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge
- VoiceOver with Safari on macOS and iOS
- TalkBack on Android devices
We use semantic HTML markup, ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) landmarks and attributes, and proper heading hierarchy to ensure that screen readers can interpret and navigate our content effectively.
4. Current Accessibility Status and Known Limitations
We are continuously working to improve the accessibility of the Site. While we aim for full WCAG 2.1 AA conformance, we acknowledge that some areas of the Site may not yet fully meet these standards. Known limitations include:
- Certain third-party embedded content (such as maps or external widgets) may not fully conform to accessibility standards. We are working with our third-party vendors to address these gaps.
- Older PDF documents linked from the Site may not be fully accessible. We are working to remediate or provide accessible alternative formats for these documents.
- Some legacy video content may lack captions. We are in the process of adding captions to all video content.
We are committed to addressing known accessibility barriers and to making ongoing improvements. We conduct periodic accessibility audits using both automated tools and manual testing with assistive technologies.
5. Assistive Technology Recommendations
For the best experience using this Site with assistive technology, we recommend the following browser and assistive technology combinations:
- Screen Readers: NVDA (free) with Firefox, or JAWS with Chrome or Edge on Windows; VoiceOver with Safari on Apple devices
- Magnification: Built-in browser zoom (Ctrl/Cmd + or -), or operating system magnification tools
- Voice Control: Dragon NaturallySpeaking on Windows, or Voice Control on macOS/iOS
